Market Features

SNAP/EBT and Produce Perks

Customers who utilize EBT/SNAP benefits can visit the Market’s SNAP Exchange Booth to receive tokens that allow them to use their benefits while shopping at more than 20 vendors. These customers also can use Produce Perks, a matching program that reimburses up to $25 for those who use their benefits on fresh produce.

Outdoor Farmers Market

On weekends from the first Saturday in May through the end of the growing season in October, several seasonal growers sell produce, flowers and other food items outdoors. These vendors add to the mix of year-round and the rotating offerings by part-time vendors housed inside the Market.

Market Money

More than a dozen Market vendors accept MetroParks Money, an e-gift card that perfect for loved ones who enjoy fresh food and artisan goods. MetroParks Money allows you to support Five Rivers MetroParks and the small businesses at the 2nd Street Market that provide jobs, tax dollars, and contributions to our schools and nonprofits, as well as the character that makes Dayton unique.

Solar Panel Array

A 131-panel solar array was installed in June 2024 on the Market’s roof. It provides clean energy that significantly reduces the building’s carbon footprint — while supporting Five Rivers MetroParks’ conservation mission to protect the region’s natural heritage. The project also demonstrates the use of renewable energy and educates the public about solar power. It was made possible through a generous gift to the Five Rivers MetroParks Foundation from community leaders Mat and Cindi Heck.

The 2nd Street Market building has three accessible ramps, with parking spaces by both ramps on Second Street.

RTA Bus Route 11
Take Route 11 north on Main Street through downtown to First and Webster streets. Walk south (right) one block on Webster Street to the Market.

The Market is easily accessible by foot or bike from neighborhoods in and around downtown Dayton. The Market includes a Link bike share station and ample bike parking.

Food growers/producers, bakers, dry goods vendors and food-service vendors are available each week. People come for the freshness, the quality and the relationship with the local growers. The Market is a favorite place for many Miami Valley residents to go year-round for locally grown meat and produce.

The 2nd Street Market operates in an historical block-long former 1911 B&O railroad building. It was renovated in 2001 by Five Rivers MetroParks to help support growing and buying locally produced goods.

View history of the Market

Five Rivers MetroParks is proud to help support growing and buying locally produced goods. The 2nd Street Market strives to promote sustainable, local food systems in order to shrink the ecological footprint of Montgomery County.

La Petite Kitchen

Donald Whitcomb has an impressive background in the culinary space spanning from management, entrepreneurship to CIA trained chef. Donald has been fortunate to work for some of the best chefs and restaurateurs in the country including Cincinnati’s own Jean-Robert De Cavel. He met his life partner, Cindi Koetzle, over a basket of frites and the two have been dually in love with food and each other ever since. La Petite Kitchen was born out of inspiration from Donald’s culinary adventures growing up with a Belgian mother and American dad. As a Euro-American Kitchen, they specialize in European and American comfort food with a splash of childhood memories. La Petite Kitchen started as a frites concept called La Petite Frite then evolved into what it is today after the pandemic. Donald started working on the original concept in Culinary School. While all items are favorites, market favorites have been the Euro Smash Burger and Carbonade-the National Dish of Belgium

Charmé’s pieces cater to a wide variety of shoppers, with prices ranging from $5 to $250. While she is currently focused on wire wrapping, silver-smithing and kumihimo weaving (a Japanese form of braiding jewelry), she also has collections of holistic healing jewelry, which have been popular with chakra-yoga clients.
