MetroParks Ice Rink

NOTICE: The MetroParks ice rink is closed for the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19.

MetroParks Ice Rink LogoThe MetroParks Ice Rink is closed for the 2020-2021 skating season, which was slated to run through February 2021. Plans had been made to open the rink, with new safety precautions in place, and staff had built the rink under the RiverScape pavilion. However, the opening of the rink was delayed due to the Stay at Home Health Advisory issued for Montgomery County on Nov. 18 and rising cases in the community. The advisory was since extended to Jan. 2, 2021, and with cases still at a high level, MetroParks made the difficult decision on Dec. 22 to close the rink for the season.

MetroParks made this decision with the health and safety of its community, volunteers and employees top of mind. Five Rivers MetroParks follows the directives and information from Gov. Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health, Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County and CDC.

MetroParks’ 18 clean, safe parks and hundreds of miles of trails remain open for people to visit. Amenities, such as bathrooms, remain open as well. For a comprehensive list of what is open and the most current information about MetroParks’ response to COVID-19, visit metroparks.org/covid and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube).

Thank you to the 2020-2021 MetroParks Ice Rink sponsors: Sinclair Broadcast Group, MSD, Kettering Health Network, Huffy, USI Midwest, City BBQ, CODE Credit Union, and Ed Smith Flowers & Gifts.

Broomball

Broomball will not be offered at the MetroParks Ice rink during the 2020-2021 season. Broomball is a team sport in which players wear shoes rather than skates and use a “broom” (a stick shaped like a broom) to move the ball around the ice and score goals. Rules and strategies are similar to those of ice hockey. To learn more, visit www.DaytonBroomball.org.

Curling

Curling will not be offered at the MetroParks Ice rink during the 2020-2021 season. Want to play an Olympic sport? Grab some friends and sign up for our curling league! This team sport involves sliding heavy, granite stones across the ice toward a marked target while your teammates sweep the ice with brooms to alter its path. Curling is accessible to all physical skill levels and no experience is required. Registration is $480 per team. Visit www.curltroy.org to learn more and to register your team.
