Become a leader on the water with ACA Kayaking Certifications

Five Rivers MetroParks will host three American Canoe Association trainings this summer, all of which include a combination of on-water instruction and outdoor classroom instruction. Join us to help promote a more safety-conscious and engaged community of paddlers throughout the region.
ACA Kayak Level 1: Intro to Kayaking
June 16 – 18 at Eastwood MetroPark from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A few learning outcomes from ACA Kayak Level 1:
- How to safely transport your kayak
- Appropriate equipment and preparation for kayak trips
- Entering and launching your kayak from shore in a controlled manner
- Proper strokes for maneuvering your kayak forward, backward, and sideways
- Multiple rescue techniques for re-entering a capsized kayak while on the water
ACA Kayak Level 2: Essentials of River Kayaking
July 28 – 30 at Eastwood MetroPark from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A few learning outcomes from ACA Kayak Level Two:
- How to read rivers
- Entering and exiting currents
- Paddle strokes for maneuvering and stability on the river
- River rescue techniques
Swiftwater Rescue for Paddlers
Dates TBD (Two-day course) at Eastwood MetroPark
Location: Eastwood MetroPark
A few learning outcomes: Teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress.
