Dot Survey

As part of a USDA Regional Food System Grant to Green Umbrella, Ohio Farmers Market Network will be conducting a Rapid Market Assessment (RMA) at the Market Saturday, July 15, 2023. This is also known as a Dot Survey. This survey is measuring the impact of the work of The Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council (part of Green Umbrella) to increase the consumption of locally produced food. If you’re planning to shop the market this Saturday July 15, please participate in this survey to help the Market by answering six short questions. It takes less than two minutes to answer these questions, and the results help the Market make an impact that is beneficial for the greater Dayton community.

Carriage Hill Historical Farm Steam Engine to visit the 2nd Street Market

Stop by and see Carriage Hill MetroPark Historical Farm steam engine in action on Sunday, July 23 as it steams local sweet corn provided by Garber Farms. The steam engine was an integral part of life in the late 1800’s. This steam engine was built in 1896 by Hagerstown Steam Engine & Machine Company. Questions about the steam engine are welcome, and free ears of steamed corn will be available for everyone to enjoy during Sunday Market hours.

National Farmers Market Week

We are so excited to celebrate National Farmers Market Week August 6 – 12 at the 2nd Street Market. Over the past year, our farmers market community has continued to showcase adaptability in our rapidly changing world. While farmers markets have always been essential to our local food systems, in this moment of widespread changes, we want to also recognize the ways in which farmers markets are essential tools for shaping our worlds, and how they bring about important opportunities for us to learn, grow and work together.

More than ever, we need places where people can come together. Farmers markets are designed in partnership with the people they serve, creating a space where market operators, farmers, shoppers, and neighbors can collaborate to meet the evolving needs of our communities.

National Farmers Market Week is an occasion to highlight how farmers markets are changing the way we eat, shop, connect, and more. The Market will host several programs and events that week including Sunset at the Market on August 10th with live music, local food speakers, melon and chocolate tastings, and a community gratitude quilt making activity.
