New Year’s Resolution Tips: Eating Healthier

Heads up! This article was last updated 1 year ago.

Eating a healthier diet is a frequently mentioned New Year’s resolution. With prices at the grocery store increasing, growing your own fresh produce is a great way to put that healthy goal within reach, while also getting out to enjoy fresh air and physical activity.

Growing fresh produce doesn’t seem like something that would be doable in January, but it can be! There are cold frames (takes forethought, slow growing, requires outdoor space, and potentially not cheap materials) or the tabletop or tower gardens (these can be pretty pricey, especially with grow lights and self-watering systems).

There is another way that you can grow your own nutrient dense produce right in the comfort of your own home, on the cheap: sprouting.

Small scale sprouting is fairly cost and time friendly (jar, sprouting lid, sprouting seeds, water, and some attention). You can grow highly nutrient-dense produce in a fairly short amount of time for you and your family. Sprouts go beyond salads and sandwiches, you can add them to curries, soups, stir fries, and much more. You can even make sprout burgers! There are sprout kits online and they are a great way to start the year off on a healthy, delicious note.
