How you can help keep Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience waste-free
A conservation agency, your Five Rivers MetroParks works hard to creative engaging festivals, programs and events that also can help you be kinder to the environment. MetroParks’ largest festival of the year, the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience, this Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at Eastwood MetroPark, is a waste-free event.
You can help MetroParks keep the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience, presented by Huffy, waste-free by following just a few tips:
- Bring a reusable water bottle: No need to bring single-serve water bottles. The city of Dayton’s Take Back the Tap Truck will be on site, giving everyone access to free, cold water.
- Bring a pint container: If you plan on visiting the Great Lakes/Fifty West Brewing Beer Garden, bring your own non-glass, measured pint. You also can opt to purchase a reusable pint glass on site.
- Find a food truck: A variety of food trucks with options for all will be available. MetroParks staff and volunteers work very hard with vendors to organize a waste-stream that is 100% compostable and recyclable.
- Don’t be a litter bug: Please follow Leave No Trace principles by taking only pictures and leaving only footprints. Make sure any unwanted waste is taken to one of the event’s waste stations, where it is sorted by landfill, recycling and compostable items.
- Volunteer: Learn how to run a waste-free event by volunteering at the waste stations during the event. Consider volunteering for a shift before or after you spend time enjoying the festival. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are needed for a variety of tasks. Sign up to volunteer.
In addition to your help, MetroParks also relies on incredible partners and volunteers who are passionate about the environment and the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience’s waste-free initiative. These partners will not only help with the process of collecting, sorting and composting waste, they are also excited to help educate you on how to keep waste out of the landfill.
Meet our waste-free partners and volunteers:
- The Foodbank will be accepting the food and service ware waste for composting, which will streamline the process for MetroParks and provide them with valuable high-carbon elements for composting. The Foodbank staff will be onsite at a waste-collection and have a booth about their organization and public composting program.
- Waste-Free Dayton will support the event by covering one of the waste-stations and host a booth about what their non-profit organization’s mission and how to get involved.
- World-Centric and Alcor Supply are working with food vendors to make sure they have the right compostable service-ware and will be onsite with backup supply and will host a booth about compostable service ware.
- Master Recycling volunteers, led by M. Carl King and Mike Fanelli, will also curate a booth at one of the waste-collection areas informing visitors about how they can keep almost everything out of the landfill.
