GearFest moves to Eastwood on October 3rd and 4th with expanded opportunities to learn new outdoor skills. Nothing says autumn like that last great catch of fish from a crisp and clear lake. Family bike rides from Eastwood along the Mad River and Creekside Recreation Trails should become tradition this time of year to see the changes in season as they begin.

- About The Park

and playground. There is a 3mile loop trail which offers hiking opportunities on
mostly level terrain. Try fishing in the big lake, blue lake, Mad River or the lagoon

|
- History
Pieces of Eastwood MetroPark have been around since before the 1950’s and has gone
through many changes. In the 1950’s there was a swimming pool where the boat docks
on the lagoon are presently, and was accessed from Springfield Street. At some point
in the late 50’s or early 60’s the pool was torn down and the lagoon, roadway from
Harshman Road, parking lots and shelters were built. In 1972 the lake was completed
(a by product of the American Aggregate Corporation’s mining). The Lake held two
functions one was to provide water recreation for the community and also to help
protect the city’s water supply by acting as a recharge basin for the aquifer. In
1990 Five Rivers MetroParks entered a lease agreement with the City of Dayton to
allow MetroParks to manage the park and in 1992 the lease extended to include the
lake. Since the MetroParks has increased security and developed a conservation plan
for the park. Some of the amenities have been replaced or upgraded to provide a
better overall experience.

- Conservation
Eastwood MetroPark contains beautiful shady picnic areas, a winding shaded lagoon,
a 185-acre recreational lake, forest habitat along the Mad River, thickets, and
a few grasslands. These grassland openings are former prairies that retain the rich
prairie soil and lend themselves to prairie restoration. In addition to its recreational
uses, Eastwood Lake is well known for its migratory bird populations, including
waterfowl, osprey, shorebirds, and gulls.
