Master Organic Gardener Course-Winter Session
Five Rivers MetroPark's Master Organic Methods Gardener Course is a training program designed to help meet the horticultural needs of the Miami Valley. Its purpose is to train volunteers and utilize their expertise to teach the public about the nature and culture of plants and their importance to our quality of life. Master Organic Gardener volunteers provide assistance to MetroParks staff so horticultural and horticulture education activities can be more effectively and efficiently carried out. This course is designed to provide a balanced and practical program in gardening with an emphasis on soil improvement and pest control. Students will be exposed to a variety of environmentally safe concepts in gardening and traditional concepts in horticulture. It is an 18-week in-depth horticulture program that includes quizzes, exams, a project, and 50 hours of volunteer service. Applications are now being accepted for Winter Session. City Beets: A Call for Applications!
City Beets is a summer leadership and gardening program for teens, 12-15 years old. Participants grow food at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark and sell it at the 2nd Street Market. Teens also cook and eat harvested produce, go on volunteer field trips, and donate to the Foodbank. Teens receive a gift card stipend. Advanced Gardening with Janet Macunovich
Garden designer and author Janet Macunovich is bringing a series of classes designed to help make a new garden or improve one you already have. Attend one, two or all the classes. Those who attend the series are given the special offer of a personal review by the instructor of the garden plan you develop following the 'Renovation' class. This is not a beginner series. Your Best Vegetable Garden - Gardening Course
A different topic will be covered each week that will lead to you growing "your
best vegetable garden.” Weekly classes will include a lecture and hands-on activity.
Guest speakers will be professional instructors from commercial and horticultural
fields with expertise in the following topics: composting and soil preparation,
planning, planting, pests, preservation, and projects. |

Miami Valley Gardening Conference
Since 1996, the Wegerzyn Gardens Foundation and Five Rivers MetroParks have presented
this conference as part of their commitment to horticultural education. Providing
a full day of learning from experts on a variety of topics to over 300 gardeners,
it is the largest and most successful conference of its kind in the region.
