Spring is here at RiverScape MetroPark
As the weather starts getting warmer, the return of spring means the return of some of your favorite events:
Adopt-A-Park: April 26 – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Celebrate Earth Day with MetroParks at the annual Adopt-A-Park event. Spend the morning volunteering at RiverScape MetroPark or other MetroParks across Montgomery County. Volunteers of all ages, accessibility levels and backgrounds will tackle dozens of projects in different natural areas. Projects will include invasive species removal, habitat maintenance, gardening activities, mulching nature play areas, historical farm clean up and more. These projects will improve the environment and beautify the region’s natural areas.
Groups are encouraged to register online early to ensure space at available sites. A limited number of Adopt-A-Park Service Kits – pre-assembled kits for participants to safely clean green spaces on their own time – will be offered to groups of volunteers who wish to take on their own local litter removal projects. Learn more and request a kit.
Passport to MetroParks: May 30 – 6 to 9 p.m.
Ready for more? Save the date to bring your friends and family to Passport to MetroParks, our signature kick off event at RiverScape MetroPark. Guests will receive a passport and a chance to earn stamps for each activity they complete. Those who earn one stamp in each of five categories (conservation, cultural festivals, education, engagement and recreation) will be entered to win prizes. Throughout the event, guests can enjoy live music, food trucks, face painting, music bingo, dozens of family activities, games and more. Passport to MetroParks is sponsored by Huffy, Wright State University and CODE Credit Union.
This year, Five Rivers MetroParks is challenging you to get out and explore by offering a couple different outdoor challenges. Both of them are a great opportunity to explore nature and learn more about the outdoor community in your area and after completing portions of the challenges, you’ll be registered to win some pretty amazing prizes.
The MetroParks Trails Challenge is a fun way to explore the region’s trails and stay active outdoors on your own time and at your own pace. With thousands of participants of all ages and abilities in previous years, there are trails for everyone to enjoy. You can participate by completing just one trail or aim to complete all of them. The MetroParks Trails Challenge is a convenient way to improve your physical and mental health while connecting with nature and enjoying an active, outdoor lifestyle.
The MetroParks Birding Challenge, presented by Oberwerk, features 30 tasks that invite participants to bird in their favorite MetroParks and even their own backyards. The challenge encourages observation, creativity and collaboration to support the more than 450 species of birds in Ohio. Open to all ages and skill levels, the challenge can be completed alone or in a group.
We’re just a month away from MetroParks’ annual Bike to Work Day pancake breakfast celebration. Bike to work on Friday, May 16 and let us treat you to a delicious pancake breakfast at RiverScape from 7 to 9 a.m. Enjoy flying pancakes, live music, meet fellow cyclists, learn about community cycling resources and how you can be kinder to the environment by opting to bike to work.
