Ride your bike, eat free pancakes and celebrate Dayton’s cycling culture during Bike to Work Day
Five Rivers MetroParks invites the community to celebrate National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16, during its annual Bike to Work Day Pancake Breakfast at RiverScape MetroPark, 237 E. Monument Ave.
From 7 to 9 a.m., hundreds of cycling enthusiasts will gather to enjoy a free, flying pancake breakfast, coffee, live music, cycling-related exhibitors, a photobooth and more during this celebration of human-powered transportation.
“The morning is all about celebrating the positive impacts human-powered transportation can have on your body, wellbeing and the planet,” said MetroParks Special Events Coordinator Chris Buck Plus, why not make your commute to work an actual adventure?”
The first 400 cyclists to check in at the Bike to Work Day Pancake Breakfast will receive a free gift from Five Rivers MetroParks. Participants are encouraged to pre-register at metroparks.org/biketoworkday.
New this year, special recognition will be given to those who participate in a Bike to Work Day group challenge. Three winning teams will be selected based on total miles traveled and the size of each team.
“We sit on a wealth of paved trails for people to explore here in Dayton,” said MetroParks Outdoor Recreation Coordinator and cycling specialist Jordan Hart. “Our region is actually home to the nation’s largest paved trail network and Bike to Work Day is an excellent way to learn more about how to Get Out & Bike in southwest Ohio – and beyond.”
For those who don’t want to ride a considerable distance, participants are welcome to park their cars at a trail access area and ride to RiverScape MetroPark from a closer starting point.
In 2024, nearly 290 cyclists rode 4,500 miles to RiverScape MetroPark.
Those who want to celebrate National Bike Month throughout the month of May, can also mark their calendar for the 2025 Miami Valley Cycling Summit hosted by Bike Miami Valley and the City of Springfield on May 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Center.
