Outdoor Market, Mother’s Day, and Pride Month at the Second Street Market

Farmers returning to the outdoor market

A warm welcome back to the outdoor market this season is Pay it Forward Farm, joining us again this year after a few years hiatus. Garber Farm, Corner Hill Farm, Consider the Lilies, Regenerate Garden Co., Harry’s Ole’d Country Orchard and Produce, and Gypsy Chick Farm are returning. Also, new growers, specialty and artisan vendors have joined the outdoor market this year as well. Running throughout the growing season until late October, the outdoor farmers market is open Saturdays, 9 AM to 3 PM and Sundays, 11 AM to 3 PM. For outdoor vendor updates check the 2nd Street Market page on MetroParks.org or the Market’s Facebook page

Celebrate Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14 with several of our vendors making it a day to remember with unique, local gifts. Come and meet Megan Griffith, a freelance writer and brain coach with Pop Up Poetry from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. With a brief Q&A, Megan creates a personal poem for you, typed on a vintage typewriter right on the spot, and suitable for framing.

Peace on Fifth is celebrating the chocolate and mother connection with single origin bean to bar craft chocolate from an award-winning chocolate maker from the Ukraine.  After the war started in 2022, owner London Coe started seeking out a connection with Ukrainian makers in Ukraine. A year later, she has four beautiful bars from Stranger Chocolate in stock just in time for Mother’s Day. This chocolate has never been sold in the US and all proceeds benefit Ukraine. These bars are currently available at Peace on Fifth Saturdays and Sundays at the Second Street Market.

June is Pride Month

As a part of Five Rivers MetroParks Strategic Plan highlighting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the 2nd Street Market will be celebrating Pride Month every weekend in June with local LGBTQ+ and ally musicians, along with community groups in attendance each Saturday and Sunday.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Homefull, a local nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness, will be at the Market Saturdays and Sundays providing SNAP tokens to those who utilize EBT/SNAP benefits. More than 20 vendors accept SNAP tokens. Additionally, those who qualify for EBT/SNAP can use Produce Perks, a matching program that reimburses up to $25 for those who use their benefits on fresh produce.

Tokens can still be used to shop the Market on Fridays; however, Homefull’s booth is closed on that day. Plan ahead to make an exchange on Saturday and Sunday for the next Friday.
