Levy Progress
Your MetroParks: Keeping Our Word
For more than 60 years, Five Rivers MetroParks has been connecting people with nature by providing clean, safe outdoor spaces that support the public’s physical, emotional and mental health.
Thank You Voters of Montgomery County!
MetroParks’ 1.0 mill, 10-year levy was approved by the voters of Montgomery County. Thanks to the support of our community, MetroParks will be able to keep safe access to the parks for all by:
- Protecting and improving natural areas, wildlife habitats, and water quality
- Ensuring safe picnic areas, restrooms, play areas, programs, trails, roads and bridges
- Providing outdoor recreation, education and festivals
- Keeping knowledgeable, helpful staff
We know sharing how MetroParks is using levy funds is important, so we’ve created this page to keep our community up-to-date. Continue reading to see how your levy dollars are at work.
Areas of Focus
Protecting and improving natural areas, wildlife habitats, and water quality
As a conservation leader dedicated to protecting the region’s natural heritage, your levy support will ensure Five Rivers MetroParks can continue its mission for years to come. Removing invasive plant species across the region and restoring water sources for migratory birds at Englewood MetroPark are just some of the projects under way.
Ensuring safe picnic areas, restrooms, play areas, programs, trails, roads and bridges
Protecting and repairing what we have is a priority with your levy support. Many of the trails, bridges, bathrooms, drinking fountains, kiosks and shelters in your MetroParks will receive needed repairs, preserving these structures so that they do not need to be replaced. Amenities which have reached the end of their life, such as the water playground at Island MetroPark, will be replaced.
Providing outdoor recreation, education and festivals
Your Five Rivers MetroParks are home to some of the region’s most beloved festivals, including the United Irish Dayton Celtic Festival, African American Cultural Festival and Hispanic Heritage Festival, all hosted at RiverScape MetroPark.
Additionally, MetroParks produces special events and festivals throughout the year including the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience at Eastwood MetroPark; Small Farm & Food Fest at Carriage Hill MetroPark; and Passport to MetroParks at RiverScape MetroPark, all of which are free to the public.
Your levy support ensures these events and programming may continue with the same quality you’ve come to expect from Five Rivers MetroParks.
