Join MetroParks for a free, family-friendly harvest celebration

Five Rivers MetroParks welcomes visitors to explore the harvest season outdoors during Fall Family Adventure on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark, 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave.

Supported by the Wegerzyn Gardens Foundation, Fall Family Adventure offers a mix of traditional festival fun and hands-on educational opportunities that highlight how plants and wildlife change during the fall season.

“This event celebrates the changing of the seasons in a not-so-spooky way and encourages folks to continue to visit MetroParks all year, as we know our parks support the public’s physical, emotional and mental health,” said MetroParks education coordinator Betty Hoevel.

Fall Family Adventure activities include:

  • Entertainment: Live music, a magician, storytelling and facepainting
  • Plants and animals: MetroParks animal ambassadors, learn about spiders, fall plant exploration in the gardens and on the trail
  • Nature knowledge: Learn about owls, leaf color changes, jumping spiders and moon phases
  • Prairie walk: Plant discovery adventure
  • Games: Leaf jumping, owl scavenger hunt, pumpkin ring toss, dress a scare crow and pumpkin bean bag toss
  • Crafts: Spider headband, shadow bats, celery stick owl, moon phases string/necklace

Visitors are welcome to enjoy warm drinks near the formal gardens.

“The educational, hands-on elements showcased during this event are a great example of what families can experience during programs throughout the calendar year at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark,” said Hoevel.

Volunteers ages 14 and over are needed at the event for routine event support including refreshments, decorating, tear down and more. Those who are interested in volunteering to help support Fall Family Adventure can visit www.metroparks.org/volunteer to sign up on MetroParks’ Get Connected volunteer site.
