Fresh, local and in-season – it’s summer at the 2nd Street Market

The outdoor farmers market at the 2nd Street Market continues on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Sundays (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), along with live music and special events this July.

Mark your calendar for Sunset at the Market on Thursday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. for special after-hours shopping, dining, special programs and entertainment. Experience the charming ambiance of the Market, which is also a part of the Downtown Dayton DORA, and a hub of culture and community.

The Market also welcomes the Columbus Iris Society on Saturday, July 19 for its annual sale. Learn about varieties of the iris and purchase a few plants from one of the oldest official iris societies in the United States.

Small Farm & Food Fest

Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carriage Hill MetroPark

Those who enjoy the local produce at the Market can learn how to grow, preserve and maintain their own produce at Small Farm and Food Fest. Located at Carriage Hill MetroPark, Small Farm & Food Fest is a celebration of healthy eating and sustainable living. Enjoy demonstrations, talks, a pop-up farmers market and much more. This free event is for all ages.

Nourishing Montgomery County

Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – outside the Market

Nourishing Montgomery County is a community-centered event dedicated to raising awareness about the vital work taking place across our regional food system. This gathering will highlight the passionate stakeholders and organizations striving to create a more equitable, accessible and sustainable food environment for everyone in Montgomery County. This free, family-friendly event will include music, giveaways, kid’s fun zone, live local radio, local food and numerous vendors.

During the event, MetroParks Animal Ambassadors and the Carriage Hill MetroPark steam engine will visit the Market. You can also catch the steam engine at Small Farm & Food Fest on Aug. 2.

Culture Kitchen: Taste of Farm to Table

Thursday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. – inside the Market pavilion

Join 2nd Street Market vendors The Narrow Way Farm and Vegan It IZ Eats as they delight you with seasonal flavors. Enjoy sun-dried tomato bruschetta with fig glaze, kale summer salad, eggplant parmesan and whipped mini fruit tarts. A refreshing beverage of cucumber basil lemonade will accompany the meal. Space is limited; registration is required.

EQUITABLE EATS

Most grower and grocer vendors and food-related businesses at the 2nd Street Market accept SNAP and Produce Perks benefits. Those who utilize SNAP/EBT can pick up SNAP and Produce Perks tokens at the exchange located at the East end of the Market.

Senior Nutrition Program recipients can also visit the Welcome Wagon to exchange their funds for $1 coupons to spend on local produce, as well as local unprocessed honey at the Market.
