Carroll Creek Farms gets new Market space
Last Saturday was the first Saturday of a new era at 2nd Street Market.
Carroll Creek Farms has moved to the vendor space formerly occupied by founding vendor KJB Farms. KJB owner Jean Mattis has retired after 26 years with the Market and wanted to hand over her space to farmers who share her passion for locally produced meat.
Carroll Creek owners Jess and Adam Campbell were exactly the kind of farmers Mattis was looking for, she says. The couple’s small Waynesville farm specializes in beef, pork, lamb, chicken and eggs, which they raise locally — without the use of antibiotics or growth hormones — from animals that have access to pasture for their entire life.
Carroll Creek is not new to 2nd Street. The Campbells started selling in a small space at the west end of the Market in 2016. This new, centrally located booth will increase their square footage and allow them to sell a wider variety of products.
“We are thrilled that Jess and Adam have been able to expand their presence at the Market,” says Market Manager Lynda Suda. “They’ll be an anchor for us just like Jean at KJB was for so many years.”
