2023 City of Dayton Lights in Flight Fireworks: What to Expect

Monday, July 3 2023 will be the City of Dayton’s Lights in Flight Fireworks Display at Kettering Field (444 N. Bend Blvd). The fireworks display is planned for 10 PM and admission is free.

The official viewing area is Kettering Field. Due to the location of the fireworks, people will likely not be able to view them from RiverScape MetroPark or some areas downtown.

Key things to know:

  • Island MetroPark will be open on July 3 from 10 AM – 4 PM. The playground, water play area, shelters, and other amenities will all be open as usual until 4 PM, when the park will close in preparation for the fireworks display. No access will be allowed from 4 PM onward, including from the bike trails or from Triangle Park.
  • At 6 PM, the following streets will become pedestrian only – no vehicle access:
    • Riverside Drive, northbound only, from White Allen Drive to Helena Street.
    • Helena Street, from Riverside Drive to Keowee Street.
  • At 6 PM, the following streets will be closed to all traffic – pedestrians and vehicles:
    • North Bend Blvd.
    • The pedestrian bridge from Water Street to Deeds Point MetroPark; all of Deeds Point MetroPark will be closed.
  • Great Miami River to close from the downstream edge of Helena Bridge to the upstream edge of the Interstate 75 bridge starting at approximately 6 PM and will not reopen until fireworks are complete.
  • Approx. 2 AM, July 4: All closures will be opened after cleanup.
  • The rain date for the fireworks is Tuesday, July 4 at 10 PM
