Café Sci
Café Sci removes science from the lecture hall into a cozy, fireside discussion.
The goal is to engage the public in science in a non-traditional way. At Café Scientifique,
a scientist introduces a current, science-related topic and then opens the floor
for discussion. Café Scientifique is held once a month, usually on the 4th Thursday
of the month, from 7-9 p.m.

Dear Friends,
Can you believe it – I’ve been at Cox since the summer of 2005! Time flies (and
so do the geese) when you are having fun and I’ve been having a great time in this
beautiful park. I’m sure you have noticed that goose droppings are no longer a problem.
Gone are the days when you came here to tiptoe through the tulips and had to try
to keep your shoes clean at the same time. (As a side bar, because of my superior
intellect I can distinguish between a goose and a duck; I have no quarrel with ducks
and therefore they are always welcome in our ponds.)
Life has been interesting for me since I arrived at the Arboretum. Everyone here
- staff, volunteers and our visitors have welcomed me with open arms. I’ve even
been invited to a family picnic from time to time, and on more than one occasion
taken an afternoon nap on their blanket. I know, I know, I’m a working dog and not
meant to fraternize with all of you, but I have found I can do both, very well as
a matter of fact.
Ron Smith (Cox Arboretum Building Manager) is still my “main man.” I was a little
upset, humiliated, and downright MAD when he gave me a haircut, but I got over it.
I realize now that he had my best interest in mind and I appreciated his concern;
it was awfully hot last summer and I am prone to terrible hair mats.
The more I got used to my new “do” the more I liked it.

If you are a Cox volunteer, you will be hearing more from me in the volunteer newsletter,
The Watering Can. I will have a quarterly column to keep you abreast of Arboretum
happenings from a dog’s perspective – is there any other?
Yours truly,
