- About The Park
Highlights of Eastwood MetroPark include a 185-acre lake, Mad River, picnic shelters and a playground. The 3-mile loop trail offers hiking opportunities on mostly level terrain. Try fishing in Eastwood Lake or the Blue Lake or the Mad River. Bring the family and the boat out to Eastwood MetroPark for a fun-filled day on the water, or just enjoy a serene sojourn on the trails.

Pieces of Eastwood MetroPark have been around since before the 1950’s and the park has gone
through many changes. In the 1950’s there was a swimming pool where the boat docks
on the lagoon are presently, and was accessed from Springfield Street. At some point
in the late 50’s or early 60’s the pool was torn down and the lagoon, roadway from
Harshman Road, parking lots and shelters were built. In 1972 the lake was completed
(a by product of the American Aggregate Corporation’s mining). The Lake held two
functions: one was to provide water recreation for the community and also to help
protect the city’s water supply by acting as a recharge basin for the aquifer. In
1990 Five Rivers MetroParks entered into a lease agreement with the City of Dayton to
allow MetroParks to manage the park and in 1992 the lease extended to include the
lake. Since then the MetroParks has increased security and developed a conservation plan
for the park. Over time some of the amenities have been replaced or upgraded to provide a
better overall experience. |

Directions
From 4 north take the Harshman Road exit, turn right the park entrances will be
on the right. From 4 south, take the Harshman Road exit, turn left, the park entrances
will be on the right.

Take route 11 west from downtown to the intersection of Springfield Street and Harshman
Rd. The park entrance is northwest on Harshman approximately one mile at 1385 Harshman

- Conservation
Eastwood MetroPark contains beautiful shady picnic areas, a winding shaded lagoon,
a 185-acre recreational lake, forest habitat along the Mad River, thickets, and
a few grasslands. These grassland openings are former prairies that retain the rich
prairie soil and lend themselves to prairie restoration. In addition to its recreational
uses, Eastwood Lake is well known for its migratory bird populations, including
waterfowl, osprey, shorebirds, and gulls.

Eastwood MetroPark offers a variety of water based recreational activities as well
as land based recreational and leisurely activities. Come on out to Eastwood MetroPark
and experience nature in your own unique way. The park is conveniently located within
the city limits of Dayton. Eastwood MetroPark is connected with downtown Dayton
by the Mad River Bikeway and with Beavercreek and Kettering by the Creekside and
