We would not be able to pull-off such a great event without the support of hundreds of volunteers—so here’s where you can help.
If you’re already an Official MetroParks Volunteer or you just have a few hours available, we need people to help create the magic of the Midwest Outdoor Experience. Novice and veterans alike are welcome.
Read what people have said about being a volunteer at this awesome event:
“I love MetroParks, they always do such a great job and this is my favorite event, so I love helping-out anyway I can.”—Official MetroParks Volunteer
“Last year was my first time volunteering. I loved it! I’ve already marked my calendar for next year’s event.”—Newcomer to Dayton
“It was the perfect way to get my friends involved in something we’d all enjoy—being outside, having fun, helping people get active. And when you’re done volunteering, the beer garden awaits.”—University of Dayton Students
Many volunteer opportunities are available during the Midwest Outdoor Experience. Dates for volunteering start the week of the event for set-up and of course, event weekend October 5-6th, along with event tear-down on October 7th.

Who do I contact if I’m interested in volunteer opportunities?
To volunteer or inquire about details, contact Bambi Shafer at bambi.shafer@metroparks.org.
Please attend one of the Volunteer Orientation Sessions.
Both training sessions will take place on-site this year—at Eastwood MetroPark, 1385 Harshman Rd. (Last Parking Lot). Training is not mandatory but highly encouraged.
Orientation Dates:
- Tuesday, Sept. 18th, 6:00pm-7:30pm
- Wednesday, Sept. 26th, 6:00pm-7:30pm
How old does someone have to be in order to volunteer at this amazing event?
The minimum age of 14 years old is required to volunteer at a MetroParks event and a parent/guardian must be on-site at all times. This is a family friendly event, so we encourage your whole family to get involved somehow.
When should I arrive for my scheduled volunteer shift?
Please try to arrive to Information Central 15 minutes before your scheduled shift starts. This will allow time to get checked-in, find your assigned area, and meet the friendly faces who’ll be volunteering with you.
Who do I contact if I have to cancel last minute?
If for some reason you get sick or have an emergency that prevents you from volunteering for your shift, please contact Bambi Shafer at bambi.shafer@metroparks.org |
