Whether you’re looking for a short, casual stroll through the woods or hoping to challenge yourself with a 10-mile hike along rolling terrain, Five Rivers MetroParks has an abundance of opportunities for you. Spend time in nature hiking more than 75 miles of natural surface trails or explore the long distance Buckeye Trail and North Country Trail that converge in Montgomery County.

Englewood Green Trail

Park near Patty Shelter and hop on the green trail for a scenic hike through beautiful woodlands and a pumpkin ash and swamp forest and past three unique waterfalls.

Germantown Orange Trail

Start at the Twin Valley Welcome Center and enjoy 6.8 miles of trail through rolling hills and traveling along the Twin Creek and through mature and old-growth woodlands, where you can spot orchids, wildflowers and wild turkeys.

Adirondack Trail — Hills & Dales

Starting at Paw Paw Camp, follow the trail north along the boardwalk through a high-quality forested wetland and around Dogwood Pond. View wetland vegetation, such as skunk cabbage and marsh marigold, and keep an eye out for migratory birds. Return to your car or continue on for a longer adventure.

Walk through a living tunnel created by large arching Osage orange trees and check out two 550-year-old oak trees along this 1.3-mile loop trail.

Taylorsville — Orange Trail

Lace up your hiking shoes at the CCC shelter and hop on the orange trail, hiking 3.2 miles through rolling terrain in East Park at Taylorsville, where you can enjoy mature upland forest with many spring wildflowers, second-growth woodlands, natural succession areas and a few aging pine stands.

Eastwood — Buckeye & North Country Trails

A section of the long-distance Buckeye Trail and North Country Trail follows the Mad River through Eastwood MetroPark. Combine this section with the paved Mad River Trail to create an easy, flat, 2-mile loop through the park.

From the parking lot, follow the paved trail that creates a quarter-mile loop through a scenic prairie. This trail is perfect for those with limited mobility who still want to experience a nature trail.

Aullwood Gardens

Stroll through this historical garden park where something is in flower most of the year, from spring wildflowers and Lenten roses, to magic lilies and colchicum into the fall. The grass, gravel, soil and paved paths travel through gardens, woods, and a prairie in just a half mile.

Carriage Hill Orange Trail

This 3.4-mile nature trail takes hikers past the picturesque Cedar Lake, through prairies and woodlands to the hidden North Woods Pond. Add mileage by hiking through the historical farm. All of the Carriage Hill trails are flat and easy to walk.

If you are new to the activity, begin by exploring the Discover programs and move on to build your skills. Those with fundamental skills can deepen their knowledge with Enhance programs.
