Childrens Discovery GardenChildren's Discovery Garden
Have you visited this favorite kid spot? Children love to explore the world around them through hands-on gardening activities. Learn about Ohio’s native habitats and create your own adventure in this whimsically themed area on the grounds of Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. Don't miss our What's New at 2 programs in the garden.

Childrens Discovery GardenButterfly House
Get an up-close-and-personal encounter with Ohio’s native butterflies and moths. The Butterfly House at Cox Arboretum MetroPark opens July 5 and stays open through August 25. Try to spot the various caterpillars, chrysalises and beautiful adult butterflies. Staff and trained volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions.

Interactive FountainsWater Play Areas
Cool off on hot summer days at the spraygrounds at RiverScape and Island MetroParks. Remember to bring proper attire for your children and keep your pets away from the water. While you're there, grab an ice cream cone from the concessions at RiverScape. Check out the newly installed surface under the fountains at Island MetroPark that is made from 100% recycled Ohio tires -- good for the Earth and good for active kids!

Get Outside Book Club

“I take my grandchildren to Carriage Hill to get them away from the daily lives of computers, cell phones and manufacturer activities…We have enjoyed the buildings, livestock, sledding, playing near the creek, walking the paths of the farm, horseback riding, the purchase of “penny candy” at the visitor center’s old fashioned store, and the opportunity to have a picnic on the grounds of the park”
– Mary Harvey

Learn about Venture Quest

Venture Quest imageFive Rivers MetroParks has introduced a new GPS game called Venture Quest, which intends to help families experience the outdoors in a whole new way.

Similar to geocaching, Venture Quest uses GPS coordinates of various outdoor attractions that participants must locate. Your goal is to find all six geological features and the post for each site.
