You will be asked during your request
- Trip leader's name, address, e-mail and cell phone number.
- Number of people in the group.
- License plate numbers of any cars to be left at the trailhead.
- Proposed night-by-night itinerary and dates for each night
- Organization name if applicable.
- Alternative proposed itineraries.
Use Areas
The backcountry is divided into "camp areas" as delineated on the map (link to entire map pdf). Each camp area has an overnight capacity based upon the size of the area, the number of suitable and available campsites, its ecological sensitivity, and its use history.
Two types of camp areas exist;
Length of Stay
All camping is limited to designated campsites. Camping in these designated campsites is limited to two nights (consecutive or non-consecutive) per campsite per hike.
Last Minute Permit Availability
People without a permit cannot attain one at Germantown or Twin Creek MetroPark. All permits are issued by calling 937-277-4374, or visting 224 N. St. Clair St. Dayton, OH Monday –Friday 9am-4pm. Permits can be obtained via phone or in person.
Please understand that demand for campsites could exceed supply. We encourage you to call as early as possible.
Leave No Trace
All Twin Valley Trail backcountry users are asked to follow Leave No Trace principles.
The goal is to have minimum human impact on the trail as a result of your trip. Important
Leave No Trace principles in Five Rivers MetroParks include:
Plan Ahead and Prepare
Know local regulations, water sources, and emergency access routes.
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Stay on the trail; don’t cut switchbacks. Camp in designated sites.
- Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack out trash and food waste. Bury human and pet waste six inches deep, at least 200 feet from the trail or water.
- Leave What You Find
Don't take flowers or other sensitive natural resources. Don’t disturb historic artifacts.
- Minimize Campfire Impacts
Know local regulations-fires are prohibited at Oak Ridge, Cedar Ridge, and Pine Ridge. Use a portable stove instead of a fire. At Old Mill, Shimp’s Hollow, Twin Creek 1, 2, & 3 only use the firewood provided.
- Respect Wildlife
Don’t feed or disturb wildlife. Store food properly to avoid attracting raccoons and rodents. If you must bring a pet, keep it leashed.
- Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Keep group size small; no more than 12 on overnight trips, 25 on day trips. Minimize noise and intrusive behavior. Share facilities.
