Infectious Diseases in the Wild:
Dr. Calvert will discuss common zoonoses, parasites, viruses, and diseases affecting travelers.  He will also cover vaccinations, treatments, and other steps you can take to prevent illness that may ruin your trip.

Wilderness Expo Activity Stations:
The following stations will be included in the expo:

  • C-Spine immobilization; how to secure a possibly broken neck in the outdoors
  • Field-expedient litters; how to carry someone to help, with stuff you brought along already
  • Reducing Fractures; how to help save some limbs while you’re in the back country
  • Packing a med kit; see what goes in it, and how to use it if you need it:

Dr. Calvert is resident at the Wright State University Department of Emergency Medicine, and a Captain in the US Air Force Medical Corps.  He is an active member of the Wilderness Medical Society, and has contributed to their publications, as well as attended their Wilderness Medicine course in the Smoky Mountains.
