- Do you know why Orville Wright laid on the right wing of the Wright Flyer during
its first flight at Kitty Hawk?
- What took place that sparked Charles Kettering to invent the self-starter engine?
- What gave Ermal Fraze the idea to design the pop-top?
- And do you know many inventions were invented in Dayton?
These and many more interesting facts will be shared with children who go on an
InvenTour.
Educational Tours for School Children
InvenTours is an exciting, educational
program sponsored by Five Rivers MetroParks to give children the opportunity to
learn about the many famous inventions and inventors from the Dayton area. The tours
take place along the Dayton Inventor's River Walk at RiverScape and are geared toward 3rd graders. This program offers
a hands-on approach to learning.
Children can listen and learn about Dayton inventions
and experience seven interactive invention stations with larger-than-life replicas.
See Inventor's Walk for a description and photo of each invention. Schedule an InvenTour
and discover the rich heritage of innovation in Dayton. InvenTours is a great way to
inspire the minds and imagination of children…our inventors of the future. Participation
in InvenTours is free of charge.
School group tours are conducted in the spring
and fall of each year. Call (937) 274-0126 for more information. To
volunteer to lead InvenTours, contact Bob Butts at (937) 277-6545 or e-mail bobbutts@metroparks.org.
