The Get Outside Book Club is a Dayton Metro Library and Five Rivers MetroParks program designed for pre-schoolers and their parents.
Read about it, talk about it and do it!
Young children are naturally curious about their world. They want to know what things are, how they work, and what they can do with them. The Get Outside Book club is designed to get you and your preschooler reading great books and then spending time together outside. The books will spark imaginations and fuel activities. When you spend time with your children engaged in these activities, they will be learning science, pre-reading skills and more! Most importantly, they will get the message that these are valuable pursuits.
Each week, choose a category to focus on: (View full activity list)
- sharing
- observing
- creating
- exploring
- playing
- imagining
Then enjoy one of the suggested outside activities or create your own experience that fits with the theme of the topic you’ve shared. These activities can be done anywhere; your backyard, in your neighborhood or at a local MetroPark.
Keep track of what you’ve read and the experiences you’ve had and every child who completes six books and six related activities will receive a small, nature related prize and will be entered into a drawing for bigger prizes.
