Bike to Work Pancake Breakfast 2008

FREE Pancake Breakfast presented by Five Rivers MetroParks and roll:

Summary
National Bike To Work Day started out a little wet and foggy, but that didn’t stop the local riding community from coming out to enjoy live music, supporting the Drive Less Live More campaign and mingling with cycling related exhibitors at the 2nd Street Market.  Of course the real reward for many was FREE pancakes provided by roll: and Five Rivers Outdoors.  The Event had great attendance; over two hundred people came out to support the Drive Less Live More campaign making the 3rd annual event a great success. Group rides were sponsored by Cox Conserves, and came from all corners of Dayton.  Everyone was also lucky to see two classic Wright Brothers bikes ridden in from Carillon Park.

Corporate Challenge
The Corporate Challenge had a great turnout from local businesses and organizations.  The wining organization receives a catered business meeting from local coffee roaster Boston Stoker, along with a $25 gift certificate to all those who rode in.  Participating organizations were:

  • City of Dayton
  • Dayton Daily News
  • Dayton Municipal Courts
  • Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission
  • Reynolds and Reynolds
  • Sinclair Community College
  • WPAFB
  • Workflow One
  • Wright State

The winner was:

  • The City Of Dayton

This year’s sponsors were a driving force in the success of the event.  The sponsors were Cox Conserves, CH2MHill, roll:, 103.9 the X, MVRPC and the Drive Less Live More campaign.  Exhibitors also played a large role in the growth of the event this year.  Exhibitors included: Cox Conserves, RTA, MCD, Miami Valley Regional Planning Committee, Great Miami Outfitters, roll:, Tour De’ Burg, Five Rivers MetroParks, the Dayton Cycling Club, and CH2MHill.  Along with the exhibitors Five Rivers MetroParks hosted a scavenger hunt, randomly picking one person whom completed it, and awarded them a $100 gift certificate good towards any recreational program at MetroParks.  Jim Moser was the winner of the drawing.

Media
Jim Bucher from Channel 2 doing “Bucher’s beat” joined us live at the event.  Kim Ferris was also present airing her morning radio show live from the 2nd Street Market.  Clear Channel Radio’s 103.9 X got in the mix with DJ Jericho joining a group ride from Wegerzan MetroPark on a bike donated from roll: bike shop.
