Backpacking involves hiking into the “backcountry” to spend one or more nights camping away from a vehicle and other luxuries. A backpacker carries all of their supplies and equipment in a backpack to provide their own shelter, food and basic needs or the means to obtain them. Backpacking trips include at least one overnight stay in the backcountry.
