Whitewater ParkWhitewater rapids coming to Eastwood
Five Rivers MetroParks is actively investigating small whitewater features on the Mad River near the western edge of Eastwood MetroPark as part of increasing the region's river amenities. Whitewater parks are areas of a river that have been partially enhanced to facilitate paddle-sport recreation. Many times these river enhancements not only benefit recreation, but can provide improved habitat, water quality and access. Whitewater parks have been used around the country as a tool to increase tourism and economic development.

Visit the Des Moines Whitewater Park website to see a movie about how another Midwestern city has reconnected with its rivers.

Five Rivers MetroParks continues to look for opportunities to improve access and a variety of other amenities to better facilitate use of the river for safe and enjoyable travel by paddlers of all abilities. Stay tuned for more information as it develops.
