Presenter:  Daniel Dorr
Presentation:  Climbing Kilimanjaro: To the Roof of Africa
Back to presentation schedule

Join me for a journey to the top of the African continent.  Kilimanjaro is sometimes called the “everyman’s Everest” because it’s possible for even a novice to reach the summit.  That’s how Daniel Dorr got started; a novice who was trying to impress a beautiful brunette with dreams of adventure.  Six months later he was laying on the cold gravel trail in Africa at 18,000 feet, panting and hacking in the darkness suffering from Acute Mountain Sickness.  But it didn’t end there.

This presentation is a detailed and sometimes humorous account of a regular guy who went from the comforts of home to the rigors of a 19,340 foot mountain.  Join Daniel as he discusses the mountain, traveling local-style across East Africa, trekking up the mountain and leaving it all on the top of the African continent.   The presentation will be a mix of history, culture, information, personal stories and lots of pictures.

Daniel Dorr is the author of Kissing Kilimanjaro: Leaving it All on the Top of Africa, co-founder of Kilimanjaro Adventures online climbing community and leader of the grass-roots campaign Happy Birthday Tanzania.  He’s an ordinary guy with a 9-to-5 job who was fortunate enough to visit Tanzania and have a life-changing adventure.
