The Ranger Division of Five Rivers MetroParks provides 24-hour law enforcement service to MetroPark visitors and staff at over 25 facilities covering over 15,000 acres of land. Over thirty rangers work together to fulfill the Ranger Division mission: to protect persons, property and natural resources and to preserve the public peace by enforcing the park regulations and the laws of the State of Ohio within and adjacent to lands owned or managed by Five Rivers MetroParks.

What is a MetroParks Park Ranger?
When you meet a Five Rivers MetroParks Ranger, you are meeting a highly trained, committed and professional police officer who works in the parks to keep you safe when you visit. The only difference from their traditional police counterparts is that they wear a different uniform.

As required by law, all Five Rivers MetroParks Rangers must pass the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy prior to employment as a ranger. Once on the job, rangers, like all peace officers in Ohio, are required to meet the on-going training standards set by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council, the governing body of law enforcement in Ohio. Rangers continue to receive training at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and from numerous other sources. Some MetroParks rangers have become instructors in various fields and can provide training to their fellow officers.

The members of the Five Rivers MetroParks Ranger Division are proud of the job they do. They are committed to keeping their promise to the public of "Clean, Safe MetroParks."

Community Opportunities

Programs
The Ranger Division’s Community Resource Officer (C.R.O.) is active in law enforcement programs in the parks. The C.R.O. plans programs such as Bike for the Health of It, Hooked on Fishing, Night Fishing and other safety programs. The C.R.O. continually implements innovative and exciting programs for all ages.

MetroParks Volunteer Patrol (MVP)
Over 30 dedicated volunteers log over 3,000 patrol hours annually, patrolling recreation trails and assisting park visitors. Are you interested in becoming an MVP?

Ranger Patrol Units

All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Unit
This unit patrols recreation trails and parkland. ATVs are valuable assets to the ranger division because they can reach remote areas and cover a large area in a short amount of time.

Bike Patrol Unit
This unit patrols recreation trails and the parks year-round. A certified bicycle repair technician is part of the Bike Patrol Unit and maintains the unit's equipment.

Cruiser Patrol
Most MetroParks rangers patrol from cars.

Horse Patrol Unit
This unit patrols remote areas in the parks that other patrol units cannot access. The Horse Patrol officers also provide security at large events and educational talks to children.

Marine Patrol Unit
This unit patrols the lake at Eastwood MetroPark.

Non-Emergencies
Call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at (937) 535-2580 to reach the MetroParks Ranger Dispatch Center and a ranger will be dispatched to your location as soon as possible.

Emergencies
Dial 9-1-1, inform the sheriff Department’s dispatcher that you are in a MetroParks facility and a ranger will be dispatched to your location immediately. Please remain calm during an emergency. If you do not provide your location in a calm manner, the dispatcher may be unable to hear you clearly. This may delay our response time. Be as descriptive as possible in providing your exact location, so a ranger will be able to quickly find and assist you.

In both emergency and non-emergency situations, please inform the sheriff Department’s dispatcher that you are in a MetroParks facility. A MetroParks Law Enforcement Ranger will be notified and will respond to the situation as soon as possible.
